New Firmware Update for the Hue Bridge and Hue Bridge Pro

Is everything running smoothly now?

Earlier this week, the issue with the latest firmware update for the Hue Bridge Pro caused quite a stir. According to Philips Hue, however, fewer than 100 devices worldwide were ultimately affected. Was it really not that big of a deal after all?

We can probably all agree that, after all these years, a backup feature for the Hue Bridge and Hue Bridge Pro is absolutely essential. Even though things usually go smoothly—when the worst happens, a backup is worth its weight in gold. And over the past two weeks, some users have had to learn that the hard way.

Philips Hue had already announced on Wednesday that it would be rolling out another update for the Hue Bridge Pro. That’s exactly what’s been rolling out since July 2. Firmware version 2071401000 should reach you in the coming days. In addition to the usual bug fixes and improvements, this version officially adds support for new products, such as the wired wall switch modules.

Be Careful When Manually Updating the Hue Bridge Pro

If you disabled automatic updates for your Hue Bridge Pro a long time ago and haven’t performed any manual updates since then, you should under no circumstances update to the now-outdated version 2071353020; instead, be sure to wait until the update to version 2071401000 appears for you. Only then can you be sure that your Hue Bridge Pro won’t suffer a complete failure as well.

Another software update is available for the standard Hue Bridge, which appears not to have been affected by these issues. According to the changelog, the changes are identical; the update from version 1977138000 to version 1978074000 has also been rolling out since July 2 and should reach you in the coming days.
