Yesterday evening, Philips Hue released an update for its application. After the announcement at the beginning of September, we are waiting for some exciting features, but unfortunately I have to disappoint you here. It’s only a small update – but I don’t want to leave it unmentioned for the sake of completeness.
Once again, it’s all about Hue Secure and the Philips Hue cameras. Here’s an overview of the improvements in the Hue app:
- Optimize your Secure camera’s battery: go to each camera’s settings and tap Battery life.
- Camera live view now shows its Wi-Fi signal strength.
Things should get more exciting with the upcoming updates, as Philips Hue still has a few items on its to-do list for this year. Here is a brief overview for you.
These Hue functions are still promised for 2024
- Multi-bridge support
- Four new effects
- Effects editor
- “Do not disturb my scene” for sensors
- Presence simulation via timer and switch
- Augmented reality showroom
- Routines for Hue Secure
- Amazon Alexa and Google Home for Hue Secure
Philips Hue is also working on other functions in the background, but these are not expected to be released until next year. In addition to an implementation of the SpaceSense function known from WiZ, there will also be scene creation via AI. And the backup function is still to come.

I have battery Hue secure cameras, and after the update there is absolutely no change in the app, what is indicated in the release notes seems wrong, or at least not complete…
Maybe they rolling it out slowly…
And again not multi-bridge support. You also can not couple your hue bridge in a second location with Apple Home, works only with the account you are logged on to. No automation, no advanced options. Sad after all those years.
I have the “Do not disturb my scene” for sensors listed (with a Beta label though)
Highly expecting most of the features promised for 2024 to be behind a subscription, specially controlling multiple bridges simultaneously. It’s a minor feature, you can easily select and adapt… it’s not a major flaw nor an issue whatsoever. If you have more than 150 lights, sorry but you’d be very reckless to trust a lighting system this big to a live-service model company… just saying.
