We are unlikely to see an update to the Philips Hue Ap this week, but Signify has nevertheless continued to work on the software for its lighting system. A firmware update for the Philips Hue Bridge has been available for a few days. In the past, these updates have been rolled out over several days and are installed automatically if you have activated the corresponding function in the settings of your Hue app.
Last week I was already able to tell you that Philips Hue Secure has received a (promised) new function: Schedules for the security system. With the update to version 5.34 of the Philips Hue app, the feature has now been officially announced once again. The manufacturer provides us with the following information in the update description.
In September, Philips Hue launched the second generation of its Sync Box. The Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box 8K costs over 300 euros and, unlike most other Hue products, I have not yet tested it myself. Not only do I lack a suitable TV, but also a suitable HDMI device to really get to grips with the new Sync Box.
Shortly after the announcements about Hue Secure and Hue Sync, Philips Hue has delivered the first app update of the year. Version 5.33 of the app is now available for you to download – and there is at least one new function. This revolves around scattered mode, which was originally introduced with the Hue Festavia and is now also available for all other gradient lamps from Philips Hue.
Late yesterday afternoon, Philips Hue released another update for its app. Version 5.32 is now available to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The update includes numerous new features, only one of which is not really new. In the update description, Philips Hue once again announces multi-bridge support – but this has been available since version 5.31.
If you’re not satisfied with the options offered by the official Hue app, I’d like to introduce you to another candidate today: Hue Essentials. The application can be found in both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. What’s particularly exciting is that Hue Essentials not only runs on iPhone and iPad, but also on Mac.
When it comes to configuring the Hue system, there has been no way around iConnectHue (App Store link) in recent years. And even if the official Philips Hue app keeps adding new features, iConnectHue remains my first choice for most settings. Now there’s some news about the app again, as iConnectHue version 5.8 is now available to download.
If you are one of those people who use a lot of Hue devices and therefore rely on two or more Hue Bridges, then I have very good news for you today. It is now possible to link multiple Bridges together in the Philips Hue app. This means that lights throughout the house can be controlled directly in the Hue app, even if they are linked to different Bridges.

While we continue to wait for the big updates, including multi-bridge support and new 24-hour scenes, Philips Hue is working on some improvements under the hood. The recently released version 5.30 brings some bug fixes and stability improvements. However, I did notice one small new feature, at least on the iPhone.
This afternoon, Philips Hue released another update for its app, version 5.29 is now available to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Unfortunately, this is still without the previously announced multi-bridge support that so many of us are waiting for. There are still two months to go, as the function is still due to arrive in 2024 – at least that’s what the manufacturer announced at the beginning of September.
