Unfortunately, the whole thing is not quite cheap, but in return you get a rather unique control option.
The current Philips Hue app was released almost exactly five years ago. So it feels like an eternity ago, especially when you consider the rapid development around the topic smart home. But today I have good news for you: Signify is working on a completely revised version of the Philips Hue app.
This week, numerous documents from Philips Hue were published by the FCC. I could already reveal to you that they are working on new E27 light bulbs with filament technology. The documents mention “Tone Filament” and “HWA” several times – and anyone who knows a bit about Philips Hue knows what this abbreviation means: Hue White Ambiance.

Apple users will appreciate that Philips Hue has been working with HomeKit for several years. About a month ago, the Philips Hue Wall Switch Module was launched and now the corresponding update for iConnectHue (App Store-Link) is finally available. The app for iPhone and iPad is one of the best tools when it comes to configuring the Hue system. And of course it offers more possibilities around the new wall switch module than the regular Philips Hue app does.
The Ledvance Smart+ Plug, formerly known as the Osram Smart Plug, has enjoyed great popularity in recent years. Because even back then, when there was no Philips Hue Smart Plug, the smart plug had an excellent price-performance ratio. With the Smart+ Nightlight Plug, Ledvance has now significantly pimped the familiar design and also integrated a new function.

Even in 2021, there is still no outdoor plug from Philips Hue that can be used to switch a classic chain of lights or other electronic devices outdoors, for example. Ledvance, who have taken over the smart portfolio from Osram, have been offering an outdoor plug for a long time – but it is anything but compact in design.

Last year, Philips Hue presented the smallest smart light bulb of its kind to date: An E14 drop-shaped bulb. There was only one thing that many people didn't understand: The product, which is perfectly suited for desk or bedside lamps, has only come onto the market as a White variant with a fixed colour temperature.
Philips Hue has now been on the market for almost ten years and is currently the clear number one when it comes to smart lighting. But the manufacturer from the Netherlands certainly cannot rest on its laurels. It is about time to pick up the pace again – because the last really big update of the Hue app was back in April 2016.
