We haven’t talked about the Hue Bridge for a long time. For many users, this is still the bottleneck of the system, as it gets really tight when you have around 60 lights at the latest. But accessories, scenes, rules and routines can also reach the limits of the Bridge even before that.
This week I would like to deal with a question that I have probably already answered several times. But there are always new readers – and they should also be familiar with this basic function. The impetus for this is a question from Hannah in our small community area: I have some outdoor lights that switch on automatically in the evening and then switch off again automatically when controlled by Hue.
Philips Hue has various channels on social media. Among others, the colleagues from Italy also post new content almost daily under the account @philipshueitalia. We normally see normal Philips Hue product photos on the Instagram profile, usually in a chic lifestyle style. On Monday, however, a picture appeared there that kept me guessing for a long time.
As we all know, Philips Hue is just one of Signify’s many projects. Until a few years ago, Signify was still called Philips Lightning and was also active in many areas in 2023. Philips Hue announced the Philips Hue Sync TV app almost exactly a year ago. Around CES in Las Vegas, the company teamed up with Samsung to present a solution that analyses the screen content directly on the TV and sends the corresponding commands to the Hue Bridge to light up selected lamps in real time to match the TV picture.
It is one of the demands that Philips Hue users have repeatedly made: A backup function for the Bridge to be able to restore the installation that was set up with great care if the worst comes to the worst. I have never experienced a hardware defect that would make a backup necessary over the years, but you never know.
We have arrived in 2024 and hopefully Philips Hue will once again be launching numerous new products this year. But what exactly is coming? That’s still written in the stars. But I would still like to venture a small prediction. In any case, it will start with a product that was already announced last autumn.

Just a few more days and 2023 will be history. I’d like to take a look back at the 12 months that began with the launch of the Philips Hue Sync TV app for Samsung TVs and ended with the launch of the Philips Hue Secure Camera. Throughout the year, Philips Hue has released a number of new products.
Here in Germany, Christmas is usually celebrated on 24 December: Christmas Eve. We go to church in the afternoon, during which time the Christ Child puts presents under the tree for the children and in the evening we eat something delicious with the family.
