I briefly mentioned this yesterday in my weekly recap on hueblog.de, and I’ve since received some feedback from you all. The latest firmware update for the Hue Bridge Pro appears to be causing significant problems for some users.
In addition to the posts on Reddit, I’ve also received a handful of emails from you. All describe the same problem: After a firmware update to the Hue Bridge Pro, it becomes unresponsive and only displays a red status LED.
At this point, I can only speculate. Based on user reports, I assume this involves software version 2071353020, which has been rolling out since June 4. However, only a small portion of users seems to be affected; if there were widespread issues, we would likely have heard about them much sooner.
Why and how this problem occurs is still completely unclear at this point. However, the Hue Bridge Pro appears to be rendered so inoperable that even a reset no longer helps, and the control hub must be replaced under warranty. This is a real problem, especially for larger installations.
It’s finally time for a backup feature
Even though most of us, thankfully, aren’t affected, this story shows once again: a backup feature is missing. After all, we’re no longer talking about five or six lights and a few switches that need to be set up again. We’re talking about installations with over 100 lights and one or two dozen accessories. Not to mention the scenes and automations we’ve set up.
Currently, the only option is to migrate from one or more Hue Bridges to the new Hue Bridge Pro. Even in 2026, Philips Hue still won’t offer a backup feature. Unfortunately, I’m not entirely sure how high a priority this is for Philips Hue, but it’s about time…
