Yesterday, the Philips Hue app was updated to version 5.38.1. An update on a Sunday? That’s a pretty unusual thing, but Philips Hue wanted to remove the Hue Secure doorbell we discovered from the app as quickly as possible. This was achieved with the update – but a few other lines of code were probably changed at the same time.
A few days ago, I made my first assumptions about a Philips Hue doorbell. The fact that we have now received confirmation so quickly is thanks to an attentive Hueblog reader and a less attentive development team at Philips Hue. Let me introduce you today: The Philips Hue Secure doorbell. With the latest update, Philips Hue has introduced a new QR scan for lamps, lights and devices.
As it does almost every two weeks, Philips Hue updated its app this Tuesday again. Version 5.38 is now available to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. I’ll tell you what’s new in this article. In the update description, Philips Hue first mentions a function that I already presented to you on Saturday: Adding new devices via QR code scan.
Brand new light bulbs and accessories are normally connected to the Philips Hue Bridge without any problems. Even with the serial number, you can usually succeed quickly. In addition, my recommendation is an absolute safe bet: quickly reset the light to be added using a dimmer switch. In addition to all these options, there is now another way, which is now the first option in the Philips Hue app: Setting up with a QR code.
Philips Hue released another update for its app on Tuesday; version 5.37.1 is now available for download. It includes a new function that makes Hue Secure just that little bit more convenient. Manual video recordings can now be created. There is a recording icon directly in the live view that can be used to start and stop a manual recording.
There is one thing that always bothers me about Philips Hue, and that is the really thick power supply units. This may not be a problem when used alone on a wall socket, but with power strips at the latest, the space problems really start. Especially if you want to place several Lightstrips or table lamps such as the Hue Play Lightbar or Hue Gradient Signe in a corner of the room.
Last week I was already able to tell you that Philips Hue Secure has received a (promised) new function: Schedules for the security system. With the update to version 5.34 of the Philips Hue app, the feature has now been officially announced once again. The manufacturer provides us with the following information in the update description.

Last week, Philips Hue released the first update of the year for its app. Version 5.33 officially brings a small improvement for Gradient lamps. Under the hood, however, a little more seems to have happened with this update, especially with regard to Hue Secure. If you tap on the small plus symbol at the top right of the Automations section of the Philips Hue app, you will find a new type of automation at the bottom of the list: “Arming schedule – Automate your Secure system to arm and disarm at specific times.”
Shortly after the announcements about Hue Secure and Hue Sync, Philips Hue has delivered the first app update of the year. Version 5.33 of the app is now available for you to download – and there is at least one new function. This revolves around scattered mode, which was originally introduced with the Hue Festavia and is now also available for all other gradient lamps from Philips Hue.
