Just under two years ago, Philips Hue launched its first MR16 spotlights with GU5.3 sockets. The big difference is that, unlike “normal” Philips Hue bulbs, they do not operate at 230 volts. Instead, just like classic MR16 bulbs, they run on 12 volts. This means that a transformer is required. However, some transformers can cause problems with the power supply.
While we seem to have to wait a little longer for the new cameras and contact sensors, there is good news for those of us who want to finally make their 12-volt lighting system smart. Announced earlier this month, Philips Hue MR16 bulbs with GU5.3 bases are finally available to order.
At the end of August, Philips Hue introduced another new light source. After E27, GU10 and E14, there are now spots with a GU5.3 base. From September, the new lamps will be available as White Ambiance and White and Color Ambiance, but there are still some question marks. For example, Marvin asks in our comments section: Is there already information in the technical data about the protection class of the new lamps?
Unsurprisingly, Philips Hue also presented new light bulbs with a socket used for the first time at the IFA, in addition to the new cameras and the contact sensor. The MR16 spots with GU5.3 socket will be available from mid-September as White Ambiance and White and Color Ambiance. The new lamps can easily replace conventional spots used in a 12-volt system.
Just yesterday I was able to tell you that Philips Hue will launch its own smart home camera. This was leaked by Eric Rondolat, the CEO of the manufacturer Signify, during the announcement of the quarterly figures. However, as I know by now, Philips Hue’s new security system will not consist of just one camera.
