At the weekend I allowed myself a little fun on the German Hueblog website. Fittingly for April 1st, I published an announcement about the third generation Hue Bridge, which of course does not exist yet. I actually managed to fool many of you with this April Fool’s joke. Some of you were even deeply annoyed that I had led them around by the nose.
If you use an iPhone or iPad, the paid application iConnectHue (App Store link) is particularly useful for configuring switches and other accessory products. The industrious developer Stefan Göhler and his team constantly deliver new updates and functions. Since today, version 4.17 of the universal app for iPhone and iPad is available for download.
A fortnight ago, the Philips Hue Tap Dial was released with the new mini mount. While nothing has changed on the switch itself, you get to enjoy a new mount. While the previous mounting plate with its dimensions of just under 8 x 8 centimetres  (in Europe) fit on common empty flush-mounted boxes, the new alternative is limited to a small mini mount with a diameter of only 4.8 centimetres.

At the beginning of November 2022, the new smart home standard Matter is officially launched. Philips Hue is also one of the supporters of the new standard and announced at the launch: “The software update will be part of the regular updates for the Philips Hue Bridge and is expected to be available to all users in the first quarter of 2023.”
In summer 2018, Philips Hue launched its low-voltage outdoor series. Starting with Calla and Lily, the portfolio has now grown to dozens of different products, even the officially indoor-only Hue Festavia light chain uses the same cables and connectors. But it is precisely with these cables and connectors that Philips Hue seems to have at least minor problems with quality.
Spring has officially started this week. I haven’t really noticed it yet in the last few days. Nevertheless, it’s time to get the patio and garden back in shape to enjoy the spring outdoors. Of course, the right light should not be missing. After all, the days will surely come when you can make yourself comfortable again on the lounge in the garden and enjoy the time in the fresh air.
In the meantime, Philips Hue has been on the market for more than ten years, but there is still no specific product for a place in the home in 2023. There are products for the TV and for the sink. For the PC monitor and for the Christmas tree.
There is no official changelog from Philips Hue yet, but I can draw your attention to a software update for the Hue Bridge. Yesterday evening they seem to have started rolling out firmware version 1.56.1956178040. With this update, the date and time of the last activity are displayed again in the settings under Accessories.
About a month ago I was able to report that Philips Hue is planning a member management for its Hue app. In future, a distinction is to be made between members and admins. Now the function has officially arrived in the Hue app. At least that’s what the manufacturer writes in the Discover section of the app: Manage access to your lights: Want to share access to your lights with other people?
Yesterday evening, Philips Hue released another update of its in-house application in the App Store. Version 4.37 is now available and it includes another feature for the Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box. “You can now set up Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa voice commands for the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box in the Philips Hue app”, the update description for version 4.37 reads.
