And the new products from Philips Hue keep coming. After the recent leak of the new Hue Wall Light Module for Nanoleaf’s smart LED panels, the focus now shifts to the kitchen. Two years ago, Philips Hue launched a partnership with the German kitchen manufacturer Nobilia. Now it appears that these products are also making their way to the open market.
The Philips Hue Linear Gradient light strip—which I’ve already tested extensively—is now listed at a regular Danish retailer and is set to be available starting September 11. That would align with a launch at the IFA in Berlin.
Philips Hue also appears to have fine-tuned some small details, as the Philips Hue Linear Gradient light strip will be available not only with a black housing but also with a white one. It’s launching with a starter set containing two light strips, likely priced at around 270 euros; additional light strips are expected to cost 115 euros each.
The individual segments are 60 centimeters long. They can be easily connected end-to-end to extend the strip. The brightness of the modules I tested was 1,000 lumens per meter. You can find more details in the following video, which I posted some time ago. At that time, I pointed out a few minor technical issues, and I hope Philips Hue has addressed them.
Philips Hue is also planning under cabinet spotlights for the kitchen
We can already see such technical changes in the new Philips Hue spots for under cabinet installation. These were also part of the collaboration with Nobilia, but there they were permanently integrated into kitchen cabinets. Now, Philips Hue appears to be working on a surface-mount version that can be easily retrofitted.
The small spotlights will also be available in black and white versions. A 3-pack starter set is listed for the equivalent of 290 euros, and individual spotlights as add-ons will likely cost around 90 euros. Those would indeed be very steep prices, though I can’t confirm them definitively just yet.
What I have learned, however, is that the Philips Hue spotlights for under cabinets apparently have only a single controller, so they can only display the same color and brightness at any given time.
