Hue Sports Live: Which sport should be next?

WiZ already supports Formula 1

Note: Article contains affiliate links. What’s that?

Last night, I ended up turning on Sports Live again. Our German team’s game was actually quite entertaining and, above all, full of goals—perfect for lighting effects in combination with Philips Hue lights. But what happens after the World Cup?

So far, Sports Live has actually only been confirmed for the major tournament in Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. Will Sports Live also be available for the Bundesliga or other top leagues afterward? I actually don’t have any more specific information on that yet.

Formula 1 is likely a strong contender

I consider an expansion of Sports Live to Formula 1 to be quite likely. After all, Signify, the manufacturer of Philips Hue, has been sponsoring the currently very successful Mercedes team for some time now. Additionally, there’s already a corresponding feature on WiZ, the little sister of Philips Hue.

There, the whole feature is called “Trackside Mode” and is anything but new. Among other things, the lights illuminate during events such as the start, accidents on the track, retirements, or when the safety car is deployed. The lights also flash when there is a change in the lead or when the leader begins a new lap. Flag signals in particular—such as the green, yellow, or red flag—are, of course, perfectly suited for light effects.

So far, however, this is only available on WiZ. Whether Sports Live will actually be expanded to Formula 1 on Philips Hue remains to be seen.

Which sport would you like to see on Philips Hue?

Feel free to take this opportunity to write in the comments which sport you’d like to see on Sports Live in the Hue app. How could the lighting effects be implemented there? I’m looking forward to your comments, and who knows—maybe something will actually happen in the future. At least around the World Cup, Sports Live seems to be going over quite well.
