Philips Hue 5.55: More power for the AI assistant

What the new update can do

Another two weeks have passed, which means it’s time for a new update to the Philips Hue app. Version 5.55 of the official app is now available for download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. What’s new?

Among other things, there are new features for the AI assistant in the Hue app, which can be found directly on the home page. It can now not only switch lights or scenes, but also create automations.

“Wake me up at 7 a.m. in Room XY” is all it takes to create a suitable automation. You can check the settings and make manual adjustments if necessary in the AI assistant.

Philips Hue states that the AI assistant only works on devices whose language is set to English. This is only half true. All you need to do is switch the Hue app to English, which can be done easily on the iPhone in the iOS settings. Simply search for the Hue app there and then change the setting in the Language section.

Further innovations for Hue Secure

Philips Hue 5.55 offers further innovations for Hue Secure. If you have enabled push notifications for detected movements by your cameras or sensors, you can access practical functions directly in the notification. This allows you to mark your home as secure or turn on the lights without having to open the Hue app.

The timeline of recorded events has also been revised. If a camera records multiple videos of the same situation, these are now combined into one event. This significantly reduces the number of entries in the timeline in some cases.

We still have to wait for the migration of multiple Hue Bridges to the new Hue Bridge Pro. Work on this feature is ongoing and it is expected to be released later this year. Since this doesn’t usually happen just before Christmas, it could be ready with one of the next two updates.
