In recent years, TP Vision and Signify, the two companies behind Ambilight televisions and Philips Hue, have not worked particularly well together. Since 2023, Philips TVs have no longer been equipped with Ambilight+Hue, and currently, the Hue Bridge Pro cannot be paired with older TVs. Now there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel, even if not all the information is known yet: AmbiScape.
In his blog specializing in Philips TVs, Alex writes that TP Vision is currently rolling out a new feature that could follow in the footsteps of Ambilight+Hue. The new AmbiScape is already available on some TVs in the new 2025 high-end series with Titan OS. Specifically, the following models:
- OLED: OLED760/OLED770
- QD-MiniLED: MLED950
- QD-MiniLED: MLED910/MLED920
- LED-LCD: PUS9000/PUS9010/PUS9050/PUS9060/PUS9080
After the software update, the new AmbiScape feature will be available in the Ambilight settings. “AmbiScape extends the Ambilight effects of the TV to the room environment by using smart bulbs from third-party providers, creating an even more intense experience,” says the TV manufacturer.
AmbiScape communicates with smart light bulbs via Matter
What is particularly interesting is that the Matter standard is used for communication between Ambilight TVs and light bulbs. In the TV settings, you therefore have to enter a Matter pairing code, which can be generated for the Hue Bridge in the smart home settings in the Hue app, for example.
In principle, however, the whole thing is not limited to the Hue Bridge, but is also compatible with other manufacturers. A support document mentions the Ikea Dirigera Hub and the WiFi light bulb from Nanoleaf, among others.
Apparently, only the Hue White and Color Ambiance E27 bulb is compatible, which surprises me a little. What is certain, however, is that Gradient products will not work in their familiar form. The Matter standard does not currently support color gradients.
New Ambilight feature is not expected to really take off until 2026
The question remains as to which existing televisions will still be able to enjoy AmbiScape. Titan OS has been in use since 2024, so theoretically there still seem to be a few candidates. However, AmbiScape has not yet been officially communicated anywhere. I therefore think that this feature will only really come into play next year. I’ll definitely stay on the ball…
Bought a 55” Phillips Ambilight TV 2 years ago. The picture was replaced by rotating blank colours. It was one day out of warranty and Phillips refused to help. I think the Phillips software update may have been the problem. Curry’s quoted £400 to repair it. I’ll never by Phillips again or anything from Curry’s.
