Sorry, I don’t have any new hardware for you today, but at least there are two small software updates. Don’t get your hopes up too high, though, because these are just minor bug fixes. One of them is for Hue Secure Cameras, where software version 1.2.32.976160 has been released. “We have fixed a bug that prevented events from your camera from being displayed,” says the development team.
The second update concerns the first and second generation Hue Sync Boxes, for which firmware version 2.5.3 is available with general bug fixes and improvements. What exactly has been changed is not explained.
I recently read on social media that the Sync Box tends to get stuck during one of the latest updates. Feel free to check the software update in the Hue app to see if the update to version 2.5.3 has worked. As is usual with Philips Hue, this should also be distributed to you automatically over the next few days.

still only 2.5.0 in the UK, will probably take a few days
Still many issues with the Hue Secure Cameras:
– Even an activity zone is made, moment outside of the zone (full video range actually) triggers an alert and recording. This should not happen.
– Animals, people and vehicles are a lot of times not recognised as such and just tagged as motion. Very poor AI recognition performance compared to eg Google cameras.
– Not able to select a group of recordings to delete at once, you have to do it one by one. Eg. Ubiquity can select and then delete a range of recordings.
– Even when a video triggers a motion, it is seconds late and the first part of the crucial motion (people eg) is not recorded. Too late to trigger a fast moving thief. Won’t be caught on camera fast enough.
So, why even choose a Hue Secure camera when crucial issues are still not fixed, more than a year after launch.
In the US, a class action lawsuit is in the works because Hue cameras are useless as home security devices. Several customers have experienced package thefts – but no alerts or footage from Hue cameras.
My 8K box (UK version of that matters) has just had 2.5.3 automatically installed and now auto-syncing no longer works. It has always been connected to the second HDMI output on my Denon AVR and worked faultlessly, but now I have to start it manually. I have reset the box, tried different cables and inputs/outputs to no avail.
Is there anyway to officially report this as a bug? Thanks.
EDIT: I’ve put in a support request via their website.
