Philips Hue only offers its own smart plug in a white version and most other smart plugs for Philips Hue and other smart home applications are equipped with a light-colored housing. Now the Dutch manufacturer Innr is going against the flow and offering its popular SP240 in black.
The new smart plug is already listed on Amazon (just search for Innr SP240 in your country), the double pack is sold for a list price of 39.99 euros in Germany. A single Smart Plug costs 19.99 euros, but only the white version is currently available.
Technically, there are no big surprises with the Innr SP240. The plug connects to your Philips Hue Bridge or another suitable smart home base via Zigbee. You can then switch the socket and the connected device on and off via the app. There is also a small switch directly on the smart plug.
Innr Smart Plug can also measure power consumption – just not with Hue
The smart plug from Innr is basically able to measure and transmit voltage, current and energy consumption. Unfortunately, this does not work with the Philips Hue Bridge, but only with systems such as Home Assistant, SmartThings or Innr’s own bridge. Another exciting feature is that the smart plug can withstand up to 16 amps, i.e. the “full” 3,680 watts for basically all electrical household appliances.
If you don’t have white sockets and frames in your home, but actually use a dark switch range, then the black Innr SP240 Smart Plug might even be something for you. The price of the new black model is currently still slightly higher than the white model that has been available for some time, but there is already a significant saving compared to the official Philips Hue Smart Plug.
