At the weekend, a question came up in our small Hueblog community that I am asked from time to time. I would therefore like to take the opportunity to provide a detailed answer here. Let’s start with the question, which is as follows.
The Philips Hue Go table lamp has a switch on the lampshade. Can this be configured in the Hue app or, if necessary, in iConnectHue?
The short and concise answer in this case is unfortunately: No, this is not yet possible. And it won’t change, at least not in this generation of lamps. The classic Hue Go already had a button that could be used to switch through preset scenes and switch the lamp off again.
It could look different in the future
Should there be a new edition of the Philips Hue Go, however, things could look different. With the Philips Hue Twilight bedside lamp launched in June, the manufacturer introduced freely configurable buttons on a Hue lamp for the first time.
The two buttons on the Hue Twilight are fully-fledged Hue switches and each corresponds in principle to a Hue Smart Button. They can distinguish between short and long button presses and are not only more configurable in the Hue app, but also in other applications such as iConnectHue.
I would like to see this technology used in other models in the future. In addition to the Hue Go, I think the Hue Gradient Signe table lamp would also be a suitable candidate, as there would be enough space on the base plate for one or even two buttons. So far, however, I have no indication that Philips Hue is actually planning anything in this direction.
