Hue Play Lightbar: Complete replacement instead of new adhesive pads

Why does Philips Hue not offer replacement parts?

Today I would like to address a topic that was brought to my attention by Hueblog reader Klaus. He recently bought a new TV and had to move his Philips Hue Play Lightbars that were previously attached to the old TV. But this is anything but easy – and in the end fails because of a cent product.

Getting hold of the circular 3M adhesive pads in the right size is not that easy. Klaus asked Philips Hue Support and received this sobering answer:

We regret to inform you that there are no spare parts available for this product.

But there is more. Support also made the following additional offer:

However, we can provide a complete replacement for your light bar within the 2-year warranty period. All we need is your proof of purchase. In this case, please send us the proof of purchase or a photo of the product label with the production date so that we can process your case.

Just to get some new adhesive pads, should a complete replacement of the Lightbars be done? In times of scarce raw materials, I can only touch my head here, not to mention the environmental aspect.

In principle, there are no Philips Hue spare parts.

In general, it is a pity that Philips Hue does not offer any spare parts for its products, not even for its own website. This is not only about adhesive pads, but also about various brackets and other small parts, which one likes to misplace, but might still need after 2-3 years.

Finally, back to the adhesive pads for the Hue Play Lightbar. I would simply buy 3M stickers from a DIY store or online retailer, either directly round adhesives or simply cut them to fit. That should be the easiest solution in the end.

Over the last few years, I've become a real expert when it comes to Hue & HomeKit. I now have over 50 lamps and numerous switches in use. I'm happy to share my experiences with you in my little blog.

  1. First, excellent post and spot-on about Philips support, and it would cost them nothing to at least identify the 3M part number so you can order replacements with confidence BEFORE you tear off the old brackets.

Second, there’s a missed opportunity in this post.
    * Has nobody identified the 3M part number or equivalent?
    * What is the size of the Play Lightbar’s sticker? Mine are in-use, I can only estimate they are between 4cm and 5cm across. I can’t google this anywhere.
    Cheers
