FabianIf someone had told me a year ago that Philips Hue and Nanoleaf would be teaming up, I probably would have thought they were crazy. Since the beginning of the month, the Philips Hue Wall Light Control Module—or, in short, the “Hue x Nanoleaf Controller”—has been available, allowing Nanoleaf Shapes to be integrated into the Hue app.
Initial documentation stated that the Nanoleaf and Hue apps could be used together with both controllers. However, there still seem to be some issues here, as Hape writes in our Hueblog community: “Unfortunately, it only works if the Nanoleaf control unit is removed. This means I lose a lot of the animations I use. When turned on, only white light is displayed; no matter what settings you choose, it’s gone once you turn it off.”
I can now confirm: Philips Hue and Nanoleaf modules cannot yet be used together. However, Philips Hue has already informed me that they are working with Nanoleaf on a solution to make exactly that possible.
More options are coming by the end of the year
And that’s not the end of the story. Philips Hue is also working on an option to make color gradients and animations even more versatile. Specifically, this involves the virtual orientation of the modules (as well as other gradient products, such as the new light curtain) in the Hue app.
Currently, colors and animations only flow in certain directions—for example, from left to right on the light curtain. A future update will introduce more options, which will also benefit the Hue x Nanoleaf Controller.
