Hue accessories now display battery status even more accurately

New firmware update released

Philips Hue has released another firmware update. However, unlike most updates, this one is not for its Hue Bridge, but for its accessories. This is extremely rare, as the last software update for Philips Hue switches and motion sensors was in December 2024. Software versions 67.116.1, 2.85.1, and 2.85.5 are now being rolled out for all battery-powered accessory products.

In addition to the usual bug fixes and stability improvements, there are also some exciting enhancements. “Improved battery status information for more accurate battery reading”, according to the release notes from Philips Hue.

In practice, this should mean that the Hue app will now hopefully display the remaining battery capacity of products such as the Hue dimmer switch or the Hue motion sensor even more accurately. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you at this point whether these changes have already been implemented in the frontend of the app.

Critical battery status was previously reported very early on

What I have noticed in practice so far: Even if a device such as the Philips Hue wall switch module already shows a critical battery status in the Hue app, it often takes weeks or months before the switch finally stops working. On the one hand, it is of course good that Philips Hue reports a low battery in good time, but the critical warnings should not be too early either. Where did you last replace a battery?

The new firmware version also improves the behavior of Hue motion sensors at low sensitivity. Feel free to write in the comments if you notice a difference in practice.

If you haven’t received the new software versions for your Hue accessories yet, you’ll probably just have to wait a few more days. It’s best to simply activate automatic software updates.
