Friday was Halloween again. I don’t really have anything to do with it, but here in our neighborhood, you can’t avoid having lots of children ringing your doorbell. And then you can’t deny your own kids this fun. And when I’m home alone, I just make the most of it.
First, I lured the children to my house with smart outdoor lighting from Philips Hue – including the new Hue Neon Outdoor Gradient Lightstrip, a Festavia string of lights, and a few Lily spots. A Sonos Move also created a slightly spooky atmosphere with the appropriate background music.
As soon as the children pressed the Philips Hue Secure Video Doorbell, a light alarm was triggered and all the outdoor lights flashed five times. At that moment, as the children stared in fascination, I grabbed the microphone of the Soundcore Rave 3S speaker, which was hidden behind them. At a terrifying volume, I then uttered spooky phrases such as: “Hahaha, I’ve been waiting for you. Come into my dark cellar and get what you deserve.“
I watched their reaction from the kitchen window before opening the door in a friendly manner and handing out candy. The response from friends I showed the doorbell recordings to: ”I wouldn’t want you as a neighbor either. For that moment of terror – I almost had a heart attack – I would have thrown eggs at your door right after.”
A truly wonderful compliment that encourages me even more for the coming year. What could I do next? Maybe I’ll hide myself in the front yard between two identical-looking figures…
