FabianA successor to the popular Philips Hue Smart Button had already been announced, and it is now officially available. The new model of the small switch has been listed in the Philips Hue online store since this morning, for €21.99 or very high $32.99. While nothing has changed in terms of functionality, the Hue Smart Button has been given a new, modern design.
The old knob with its rather soft silicone cover has been replaced by an angular, but still downward-facing button. With a diameter of 4.5 centimeters, the new Smart Button is exactly 13 millimeters larger than its predecessor. At 1.3 centimeters thick, it is also slightly flatter than before.
The integrated CR2032 button cell should be sufficient for 50,000 clicks and last at least two years. Communication with the Hue Bridge takes place as usual via Zigbee, and the switch is configured directly in the Hue app.
With the new Hue Smart Button, you can also switch between different scenes, either in a specific order or depending on the time of day. With a long press, the light can be dimmed brighter or darker. Alternatively, you can also assign an automation to the switch.
New Hue Smart Button comes without a large wall plate
Unlike the previous model, the new Hue Smart Button no longer comes with a large wall plate. This has simply been omitted, as the Hue wall switch module should ultimately be used with a light switch. The small magnetic button can either be attached directly to suitable surfaces or, alternatively, a small mini adhesive mount is included.
It remains to be seen whether the new Hue Smart Button will be available for sale to the general public. Its predecessor was sold exclusively in the official Philips Hue online shop and exclusively on Amazon; other retailers were not allowed to include the Smart Button in their product range.
