It’s always a bit unfortunate when announcements are not kept. When Philips Hue announced the Hue Sync TV app for LG televisions at the beginning of January, all televisions with webOS 24 as the operating system were still to be supported, including TVs from 2022 and 2023.
Unfortunately, Philips Hue has not kept to exactly this point in the announcement. In a new version of the press release sent out this week for the launch of the app, the manufacturer writes: “The Philips Hue Sync TV app is available for download on all LG TVs from model year 2024 onwards with webOS24 or a more recent operating system.” And the website also states: “Available on LG TVs from 2024 with webOS24 or higher. If your TV supports the Hue Sync TV app, it will appear when you search for it in ‘Apps’.”
Unfortunately, I don’t have an LG TV and therefore can’t give you my own impressions of downloading, installing and using the app, but in principle it should work in a similar way to Samsung.
What about older LG televisions and the Hue Sync TV app?
But what about older televisions from 2022 and 2023? At the moment, there is only one more than cryptic statement from Hue support: “As this is related to the software compatibility, both Hue and LG will work together in case the App will be available for 2023 or lower models.” Past experience has shown that the support staff can sometimes be a little creative in their responses.
For this reason, I also contacted Philips Hue directly once again to clarify the matter. However, a definitive and clear answer does not seem to be so easy, as I have not yet received any official feedback. As soon as I receive an exact answer, I will update this article.
This is the official statement from Philips Hue
In the meantime, Philips Hue has contacted me, unfortunately not with bad news. Contrary to what was originally announced, the Hue Sync TV app will not be released for older LG televisions. Here is the wording of the statement:
We apologize for the misleading communication around the compatibility of the Philips Hue Sync TV app for LG TVs. The Hue Sync TV app is dependent on the capabilities of the TV firmware at a deep level, which is only available on LG TVs from model year 2024 onwards and does not depend on the webOS version. There are currently no plans to offer the Hue Sync TV app for older LG TVs.

Thanks Fabian for investigate it.
In the meantime, Root the TV, PicCap and HyperHDR and its all free.
If it comes I’ll think about it but this silly decision forced my hand…
