Hue Sync TV app: Philips Hue and Samsung expand cooperation

Soon also available as a subscription

In January 2023, Philips Hue launched a surprising cooperation with Samsung in the TV environment: the Hue Sync TV app was born. It can be used to synchronise lights to match the screen, regardless of where the picture content comes from. It is supported. The app is available on all 2022 devices from the Q60 model upwards and can be easily installed via the App Store, albeit for a hefty 129.99 euros.

If this is too much for you, the Hue Sync TV app will also be available as a subscription this spring. You will have to pay €2.99 per month, but then the software can be used on up to three TVs in the same household. After just over three and a half years, you would pay more for this solution – at least as long as you only use the app on one TV.

Simplified control via the SmartThings app

The settings for synchronisation with Philips Hue were previously made directly in the TV menu. Thanks to improved integration into the Samsung ecosystem, this will soon also work with the SmartThings app. There you can choose between different modes and either start or stop light synchronisation. In addition, automations can be created for multiple devices to create the perfect film backdrop at the touch of a button.

New music mode for 2024 Samsung TVs

If you own a brand new Samsung TV, there’s a new feature coming soon: Music Mode. Instead of analysing the content on the screen, the Philips Hue lights react to the sound of the TV with this function. Music Mode is compatible with any music played on the TV.

Later this year, Music Mode will also be available for Samsung 2022 and 2023 TVs. The Hue Sync TV app will also be rolled out in Brazil, Hong Kong, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

  1. Hello community,
Are there any signs or plans for this feature to be expanded to others TV brands, like Sony? I’m using the HDMI box in my AppleTV, PS5 and Sony TV setup for 2 years now but the box fails every so often since the very beginning, switching TV brand is not in my plans.
Many thanks and keep up with the good work
