For most of us, the holiday means a relaxed start to the new week. Tonight, I’ll be covering the big WWDC keynote for our Apple blog, but I can’t resist taking a detour into the world of Hue. I have two pieces of news from Signify for you.
Several years ago, the company announced its intention to eliminate plastic from its packaging. This project now appears to have been successful, as the company has announced: “Philips Hue has removed 99.9% of plastics from its product packaging. The packaging has also become smaller, contributing to a reduction of 6,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year across the entire consumer product packaging portfolio.”
To achieve this, hundreds of packaging components have been replaced with paper-based or bamboo alternatives in recent years. At the same time, the unboxing experience has been improved and product protection ensured.
Hue manufacturer has a new boss
After the previous Signify CEO Eric Rondolat stepped down on April 25, Željko Kosanovi took over as interim CEO. Now an official successor has been appointed: As Tempelman will become the new CEO of Signify on September 1.
“As Tempelman is currently CEO of Eneco, an integrated sustainable energy company operating in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and the United Kingdom,” Signify said. “Prior to joining Eneco, As Tempelman held senior positions at Shell in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.”
