Just one week after the last update, a new version of the Philips Hue app is available for download. The update to version 5.65.0 is already available on the Google Play Store, and it should arrive on the Apple App Store today or in the coming days. And once again, Philips Hue isn’t revealing all the details in the official update description.
It simply states: “You can now access the Hue AI Assistant directly from the ‘Rooms’ and ‘Zones’ screens to easily create scenes and automations tailored to your needs.” In the settings under “App Settings,” you can specify exactly where the Hue AI Assistant should appear. I’ve since disabled it completely again.
Manage third-party apps and services directly in the Hue app
But that’s not the only new feature hidden in version 5.65.0 of the official Hue app. Hueblog reader David, who was already able to install the update on his Android smartphone, discovered the new “Application Areas” menu item in the settings. There you can find all cloud-based and network-based services and apps linked to your Hue account. This is handy if, for example, you want to revoke access to your Hue setup for Sonos, Alexa, or other third-party apps.
This isn’t entirely new. In the past, you could already see which apps were connected to your Hue account and adjust access accordingly. Until now, however, this was only possible in a browser via the website account.philips-hue.com. Now Philips Hue has integrated this exact feature directly into the app, which is, of course, quite handy.
If you discover any other new features, I’d love to hear about them via email or in the comments.
I was digging through the APK contents over the weekend, which turns out to be flutter based, so the source code is shared between android and ios. It turns out there’s a ton of code regarding homekit camera support in there already, with even a feature flag to toggle it (controlled by signify). Since you already saw a working demo earlier, the feature itself is most likely already complete, are they perhaps just waiting for Apple’s stamp of approval to release the feature? I can’t imagine that would take several months to complete…
Anyways, they are taking way to long to get this out of the door, I bought the hue doorbell partially because this feature was promised. I will continue to dig through the source code to see if I can get a third party platform like home assistant to get a live feed, even if it has to be cloud based for the moment. Would really appreciate it if hue we’re to take the lock off this hardware that I bought and give me some form of a local API to access all bells and whistles
