Originally, I had considered complaining in my little personal blog this weekend that Black Friday, the shopping day of the year, feels like it’s lasting two weeks this year. But honestly, this is nothing new; it’s been like this for the past few years. The actual Black Friday is not until November 28, but you’ve been able to shop at Philips Hue at a special price since November 13. On November 20, Amazon followed with more deals.
This week, I’m more excited about the continued hard work of the Philips Hue software team. Not only are there updates for the Hue app with new features every two weeks, but the hardware is also being continuously improved. This week, it was the Hue Secure Video Doorbell that saw an essential improvement: the LED around the doorbell button now lights up automatically as soon as motion is detected.
Perhaps I’m a little biased here, as I follow Philips Hue very closely and in great detail. However, I find that other manufacturers don’t maintain their software and firmware as attentively after release as Philips Hue does. Feel free to write your thoughts in the comments.

I have had Hue since its launch when it was exclusive thru apple retailers. As an apple employee i got a starter kit for a fraction of retail. Today i have every light in my home (225+ ) and careas at every corner. I have had a bunch of failures and would have dumped Hue if it were not for their improvements amd great support. So i agree with you about the software. But the 2 k cameras wont be in the usa until march 2026 so the black friday sale is just a opprtunity for closeout prices iMO. .
Fabian hello. Could you please give any advice on a suitable Hue lightstrip for a curved with a 21:9 ratio 45 inch monitor, since there is no dedicated option for that size? I am hesitating between 32-34 inch monitor version and 55 inch tv version. I was also thinking of wall washers as an alternative to the strip. Thank you in advance!
Hey,
I’m not sure, because I don’t have a monitor that size. I think the PC Play Gradient Lightstrip 3x 24/27″ for triple monitor setups could good for you.
Great to see Philips Hue keeping up with both software and hardware updates! The motion-activated LED on the Hue Secure Video Doorbell is a nice touch shows they really care about user experience.
