And here comes the next new product release from Philips Hue. Admittedly, it’s not really spectacular this time, but I don’t want to leave it unmentioned. It’s the new second generation of the Hue Secure camera with 2K resolution. Compared to the first generation, it has almost twice as many pixels.
To be precise, the resolution has been increased by 75 percent. Instead of 1080p and 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, the Hue Secure Camera is now available with 2K and 2,560 x 1,440 pixels for an additional charge of $30.
However, the cameras themselves and their form factor remain unchanged. The wired Hue Secure camera with wall mount costs $179.99. For $199.99, you also get a stand in the matching color. The wireless Hue Secure camera, on the other hand, has not been updated and is still only available with 1080p.
The two new cameras should be available in the official Hue store later today. If you’re in a hurry, you can already order the new products and the doorbell on Amazon, at least in Germany.
When will the 24-hour free video recording start?
At the beginning of September, Philips Hue announced that it would make video recording of events free for 24 hours. This feature is not yet available. However, as part of the new product launches, Philips Hue has informed me that the free 24-hour video history will be available to all existing and new customers by the end of October. If you sign up before then, for example with the doorbell, you will receive the premium package free of charge for 30 days anyway.
There should be more news over the next few weeks. Features such as Smart Response or video calls for the doorbell and live video feeds in Apple Home have already been officially announced and are already being advertised on some of the product pages.
Still nowhere to buy. In Nederland
No HomeKit Secure Video, no sale.
HomeKit Secure Video = 1080p 🙁
