Hueblog: These Philips Hue products will soon be discontinued

These Philips Hue products will soon be discontinued

Replaced by the new Lightstrip generation

Last Thursday, Philips Hue presented seven new light strips, which can be confusing: Flux, Flex, Neon, Omniglow – there’s a lot to choose from. I’ll give you a detailed overview in the coming days. We still have some time, as the new light strips won’t be available until November. But today, we want to address another question: What will happen to the previous Philips Hue light strips?

Specifically, there are four models. The Hue Lightstrip Plus and the Hue Solo Lightstrip, which was only introduced last year, are technically identical. Then there is the best light strip from Philips Hue to date, the Hue Ambiance Gradient Lightstrip. And the Hue Outdoor Lightstrip is also getting a successor.

The previous Hue Lightstrips will no longer be produced

The end is nigh for these models. As Philips Hue has informed me, these four light strips will no longer be produced and will gradually disappear with the launch of the new Lightstrips. Light strips and extensions that have already been manufactured will still be sold, but after that, it will be the end.

And in a way, this marks the end of an era, because the Hue Lightstrip Plus was introduced almost exactly 10 years ago. At the time, we were told: “Hue Lightstrip Plus is the newest member of the Hue family, which has now grown to 19 different lamps and lights.” It’s incredible how the whole thing has developed since then. But to be honest, it has to be said that the Hue Lightstrip Plus has not been state-of-the-art for a long time.

The Hue Play Lightstrips for TVs and PC monitors are not affected. They have not been replaced and will therefore remain in the portfolio as usual.

Philips Hue continues with these light strips

  • Hue OmniGlow Lightstrip (3/5/10 meters) starting at €139.99 – launching in November 2025 (EU&US)
  • Hue Flux Gradient Lightstrip (3/4/5/6/10 meters) starting at €69.99 – launching in October 2025 (EU) and March 2026 (US)
  • Hue Flux Ultra Bright Gradient Lightstrip (3/5/10 meters) starting at €99.99 – launching in October 2025 (EU)
  • Hue Flux Gradient Outdoor Lightstrip (5/6/10 meters) starting at €149.99 – launching in October 2025 (EU) and March 2026 (US)
  • Hue Neon Gradient Outdoor Lightstrip (3/5/10 meters) starting at €139.99 – launching in October 2025 (EU) and March 2026 (US)
  • Hue Essential Lightstrip (5/10 meters) starting at €59.99 – launching in December 2025 in Europe
  • Hue Essential Flex Lightstrip (5/10 meters) starting at €99.99 – launching in December 2025 in Europe

To help you keep track of everything, there will be a detailed article in the coming days with all the details and differences between the new light strips.

Over the last few years, I've become a real expert when it comes to Hue & HomeKit. I now have over 50 lamps and numerous switches in use. I'm happy to share my experiences with you in my little blog.

  1. I feel I know the answer to this, but just want to make sure…

Are the new light strips fixed in size? I guess they are, which means it is not possible to cut them or extend them further, if needed.

    1. You can cut them. Cut pieces can be reconnected at the Flux Lightstrips, but not at the OmniGlow.

    2. Could you please also find out the length of the cutting segments for each of the new lightstrips?

  2. Hi, me again! lol. Is the US also going to get different lengths of the OmniGlow? Only 3m is listed on the US product page currently. Thanks!

  3. It’s nice how they decided to move from “easily understood, descriptive product names” to “Flux, Flex, Neon, Omniglow”.

What the hell are any of those names supposed to mean? Do I use the first one with my soldering iron?

Is the second one for bulking up at the gym?

Is the third one intended primarily for bar signage?

If I turn the last one on, will it truly cause all of existence to glow, or is that false advertising? Can we at least have Multiglow too, for those times when we want some glow, but just don’t quite feel the need to illuminate the ENTIRE universe?

All this new branding just seems so very unnecessarily confusing…
