When I moved into my current home in 2017, the selection of ceiling lights in the Philips Hue range was still fairly limited. You could count the available models on one hand; names like Struana, Cher, and Fair come to mind. There were also a few spotlights, such as Hue Runner, but these were also equipped with individual bulbs.

So, I ended up choosing classic ceiling lights for almost all rooms, which I then equipped with three E27 bulbs or even more spotlights. This quickly led to me exceeding the Hue Bridge’s lamp limit.

Of the many converted ceiling lights, only two remain. One of them is in the bathroom, where I think the three individual bulbs are really cool because you can use them to create different colors when you’re relaxing in the bathtub. And then there’s the almost one-meter-wide ceiling light in our living room, which is equipped with no less than seven E27 bulbs. We don’t turn them up to full power in everyday life; we just like the large diameter of the ceiling light.

What does it look like in your home?

I have gradually converted all the other rooms. In the kitchen, I switched to Hue Aurelle early on, and a Hue Flourish hangs above the dining table. The Hue Enrave XL can be found in the children’s room, the Hue Datura in the bedroom, and a Hue Infuse in the study. Most recently, I installed a Hue Tento in the hallway.

But now for the big question: What’s it like at your place? Which ceilings have you already equipped with Philips Hue? And did you equip classic ceiling lights with smart bulbs, or did you go straight for a smart ceiling light from Philips Hue? Which model have you had particularly good or perhaps bad experiences with? I look forward to reading your comments.

  1. I really love the Hue Centris. I have a 3+1 Centris installed in my gaming room, and two 2+1 Centris installed in the bedrooms. They provide a more solid color than the E27 bulbs, and looks phenomenal in a contemporary decor.
