Philips Hue: Glisten and Opal now for more lamps

Exclusive Festavia effects unlocked

With the launch of the second generation of Philips Hue Festavia, the manufacturer integrated three new effects into the Hue app last autumn: Glisten, Opal and Prism. Previously, only the latter effect was available for all colourful Hue lamps, while the other two were reserved exclusively for the Festavia string lights.

This now seems to be changing: Hueblog reader Dennis informs me that he can now also use the Opal and Glisten effects on his White and Colour Ambiance bulbs as well as the Gradient Lightstrip. And I can also confirm this: Some of my lamps can now also play the two effects.

Some of the lamps have received a firmware update to version 1.116.3 in the past few days, while others have not yet. So far I haven’t been able to recognise any real pattern as to whether the activation of the effects is related to the software version.

But just have a look and see if anything has changed for you. To start an effect, first select the desired light source in the Hue app. You will then see a small icon with three small stars directly below the large colour circle. This will take you to all the effects, namely

  • Candle
  • Fireplace
  • Sparkle
  • Glisten
  • Opal
  • Prism
