Just under two years ago, the Hue Slim recessed light was launched in a total of four different versions: with a white or black housing and a diameter of 9 or 17 centimeters. An improved version will be released later this month.
This was already to be expected, as the previous models have been offered at significantly reduced prices in recent weeks. Now the reason is clear: the new generation has appeared in the Philips Hue online store. However, the improved version of the Hue Slim recessed light is not yet available for order.
While not much has changed on the outside, the new model offers at least two improvements under the hood. First of all, it features a new wireless chip that, in addition to the Zigbee connection to the Hue Bridge or direct control via Bluetooth, also supports Matter over Thread. This allows the recessed spotlights to be paired directly with a compatible smart home system of your choice.
In addition, the color temperature range has been expanded, just as we’ve seen with other Hue products. Instead of the previous 2,000 to 6,500 Kelvin, the range now spans 1,000 to 20,000 Kelvin. While this may sound like a lot at first, it doesn’t make a significant difference to the naked eye. Still, the new Hue Slim recessed lights do offer a little bit more.
There are no changes, however, to the maximum brightness. The recessed lights with a diameter of 9 centimeters produce up to 1,000 lumens, while the larger model with a 17-centimeter diameter produces as much as 1,500 lumens. That’s significantly more than you can achieve with standard recessed spotlights, including GU10 spots. Even the current generation of those only produces a maximum of 400 lumens.
In addition to the upgrade for the Hue Slim recessed light, there will also be a similar improvement for the E14 candle bulb in June.
