FabianBack in mid-May, I was able to tell you that Philips Hue was working on two new products in the Play series and would likely release them in June: a 60-centimeter-tall Hue Play table lamp and a 135-centimeter-tall Hue Play floor lamp.
The latter is labeled “Hue Play Floor Lamp Large” on the packaging. Now another version of the floor lamp has appeared on Amazon, also listed at 149.99 euros. The packaging here reads: “Hue Play Floor Lamp Compact.”
From the product names, we can deduce that the compact version is not 135 centimeters tall, but only 122 centimeters. Please don’t ask me why Philips Hue is launching two different versions, but maybe those 13 centimeters really do make a difference. This is only frustrating for those of us who were hoping for a 127-centimeter-tall floor lamp…
How bright the new Philips Hue Play series shines
Personally, I expect a market launch around the middle of the month, since two of the new products have already been briefly listed in Cyberport’s German online store. That actually suggests things will get underway soon. I’ll definitely keep you updated on the exact launch date.
However, I’ve already gotten my hands on some technical specs that I’d like to share with you. The small Hue Play table lamp will be able to shine at up to 400 lumens. For the Hue Play floor lamp (122 cm), the maximum brightness is 925 lumens. The Hue Play floor lamp (135 cm) reaches up to 1,040 lumens.
In comparison, the significantly more expensive Hue Gradient Signe is much brighter. Here, the table lamp reaches up to 1,040 lumens and the large floor lamp up to 2,550 lumens. However, the prices are also more than twice as high.
