And on we go with the new Hue products. The Hue Secure Video Doorbell is now available in both Europe and the US. I recommend purchasing it as a bundle with the Hue Secure Chime, the digital door chime from Philips Hue. This bundle is now available in the Philips Hue online store.
What makes the Hue Secure Video Doorbell special
Smart doorbells with video functionality are already a dime a dozen, including many models for less than $100. So why choose the Hue Secure Video Doorbell? As always, there is a simple explanation: its excellent integration into the Hue system. Let me explain this in more detail.
Video and audio are transmitted via Wi-Fi, of course, just like with other manufacturers. In addition, the Philips Hue doorbell also has a Zigbee antenna for direct and fast communication with the Hue Bridge. This means that the ringtone on the Hue Secure Chime and the light alarm on selected lamps are triggered ultra-fast.
It was pretty impressive when I first tried it out at the launch event in Berlin. I’ll find out how well it works in practice for you in the coming days – of course, I’ve already ordered the Hue Secure Video Doorbell. In any case, I’m quite excited.
Another practical feature: the doorbell also detects movement and can then directly switch on the lighting at the front door (if you have Hue installed there too). This saves you having to buy a separate motion detector.
Video events triggered by detected movement or even just by the doorbell ringing can be stored in the cloud if desired. Until now, this feature required a paid subscription. Philips Hue has announced that the first 24 hours will be free in the future. That way, you’ll never miss an important moment again.

Installing the smart doorbell from Philips Hue
One detail is particularly important: the camera is hardwired and requires a 12-volt doorbell transformer. You can find more details about the installation in the following video.
Does it support RTSP/ ONVIF for saving video on NAS storage? It’s not mentioned anywhere.
It’s not mentioned, because it does not support it 😉
I’m not sure how much I need or want a smart doorbell. I’ll read about a real world review before making up my own mind but I can probably do without one.
No official information on the new rumored hub?
I thought those will be bundled together.
Also I’m wondering if I should upgrade my hub to matter that also supports zigbee or just stay with the philips hue hub for now since all of my products are philips hue.
The Hue Brigde Pro is available since four weeks now 😉
Also, Matter is very limited in terms of lighting control, effects and gradients. You get much more functions with the Hue Bridge (Pro).
How do you secure it to the wall so that it can not be stolen off the wall???
With screws, you can see it in the video.
My local webshop claims is supports Apple Home. I notice Plle Home is omitted on the product box though. Is Apple Home supported?
Philips Hue said they are working on Apple Home integration. But only for live streaming, not HomeKit Secure Video for the moment.
Thanks for your fake review and excitement. You don’t need the so-called smart doorbell for an ultra fast ring – everyone with an old doorbell with wired chime already got that part covered.
Have some integrity – you strongly recommend the product based on a demo you saw? Let us not forget the Hue camera disaster – I will not, because I am one of the unfortunate early adopters.
Buyer beware!
This is not a review. I thought that was clear…
The Philips Hue Secure Video Doorbell sounds like a great addition to the Hue ecosystem especially with its Zigbee integration for ultra fast responses. I really like how it can trigger both the chime and smart lights instantly adding an extra layer of convenience and security. The motion detection that doubles as a light trigger is a smart touch eliminating the need for extra devices. Also offering 24 hours of free video storage is a big step forward for users who don’t want to commit to a subscription right away.
