At the beginning of the week, I was able to share the first information about the upcoming Philips Hue Play Wall Washer with you—the first product details were published early on the British Amazon website. However, marketing images are always somewhat different from impressions from everyday life—and this is where a lucky coincidence comes into play.
Through a social network, I came into contact with a Hueblog reader who recently had quite a bit of luck. He was able to get his hands on a Philips Hue product on eBay, which he only realized was an unreleased novelty after reading my report. And the whole story is still worthwhile for us, because the reader shared some impressions and pictures with me.
The first details about the Philips Hue Play Wall Washer
The first image shows how small the Wall Washer is: at 15.7 centimeters, it is just under half the size of the Hue Play Lightbar. You can also see the individual LED modules and the open-top design, which makes the light cone even larger than that of the Hue Twilight. Unfortunately, this image also shows the still very bulky and large power supply, which has not been modernized.
Due to its significantly greater brightness (the Hue Play Wall Washer produces 1,035 lumens and the Hue Play Lightbar only 500 lumens), the distance from the wall can be greater. This also increases the lighting effect, as can be seen in the image below. The different colors of the scene are also clearly visible.
“Overall, I am very satisfied with the product. It is of very high quality. I think it needs to be placed further away from the wall than most people would expect in order to achieve the desired effect,” writes the happy Hueblog reader.
However, one mystery remains at this point: When will the Hue Play Wall Washer be released? Since the complete marketing materials were already integrated on Amazon, it probably won’t be long now. Philips Hue usually launches its new products in January, June, and September.

Here’s the million dollar question: Does this need a Hue Play HDMI Sync Box? I used to have a Hue strip for my TV, but it was worthless without the Box and it was so unreliable I went through 3 of them in a span of 2 years. Once the last one stopped working (again) I decided to go without the TV strip lights. Not having to use that piece of junk would be a serious upgrade.
can I ask how long the cable is?
Around 1.90m
