FabianIn September 2023, Philips Hue presented its smart home cameras, and the launch was accompanied by a contact sensor. Apart from price reductions and software updates, not much has changed since then and the Hue Secure portfolio has remained unchanged for almost two years. This could change this year.
I can well imagine that Philips Hue will add further components to the Hue Secure system in the fall. At the top of the potential list of new additions could be a video doorbell, let’s just call it the Philips Hue Secure Video Doorbell.
Philips Hue will probably not be experimenting here. We can most likely expect a classic doorbell design with a camera in the upper part and a bell button with LED ring in the lower part of the device. Similar to what we already know from Ring, for example (see title image).
Will there also be a Hue Secure Chime as an alarm siren?
The doorbell could be complemented by another new gadget that could take on two tasks in the smart home: A Hue Secure Chime. I imagine this to be a small adapter with a speaker for the socket that plays a door chime when someone rings the doorbell, for example. Or an alarm if a contact sensor is opened in your absence. Similar solutions are already available from other manufacturers (such as Arlo) and I have received several inquiries about just such a product in recent weeks.
Of course, nothing is official yet and Philips Hue does not make any statements about products that have not yet been announced. In general, a Philips Hue Secure Video Doorbell would be a logical extension of the system for me, as it could be used to create exciting automations. Not only could you receive a notification on your smartphone when someone rings the doorbell, but the light could also be switched on automatically. For example, in the hallway or simply any individual lamp as a bell notification.

The light notification for a doorbell could be great for people with hearing disabilities, but also for people recording music.
I’m surprised they didn’t take advantage of the app to increase features for free in a similar fashion, it would be easy enough to have a light used as a notification for calls, calendar reminders, apps notifications, etc…
