Already with the launch of the new Philips Hue app, Signify has announced to deliver an exciting new feature this summer: Dynamic Scenes. After I already gave you the first key data around the new feature quite a while ago, there is now news.
As I was told by several readers, the dynamic scenes are probably about to be launched and are to be officially introduced with the update to version 4.4 of the Hue app. However, the new function is probably not quite ready yet.
Initially, the dynamic scenes will only work with the original scenes from the Hue Light Scene Gallery. The speed of the colour changes is also not to be adjustable for the time being.
However, the handling is very simple: In the room view, only one scene has to be activated, for example “Soho”. Immediately afterwards, you can tap the play button on the scene tile to start the animation. The dynamic scene is stopped in the same way.
The special feature of this new solution from Philips Hue: unlike previous solutions from Hue Labs or third-party apps, each colour change is not sent as a single command from the Hue Bridge to all the lamps involved. “The effects are played directly on the lamps, so the dynamic scenes will run independently of the rest of the network,” says Hue inventor George Yianni.
I’m already excited to try out the dynamic scenes myself. It will probably only take a few more days until version 4.4 of the Hue app lands in the App Store.
