FabianAnother new product from Philips Hue is now available, but once again not worldwide at once. The 5-meter-long Hue Essential Lightstrip can now be ordered in the US and Canada. Here in Europe, where it will cost €59.99, there is still no sign of it. In September, Philips Hue announced the launch for December, but according to my information, this could be tight in Germany and other European countries.
The Hue Essential Lightstrip is the simplest light strip in the new Philips Hue portfolio. It has a super-simple design and does away with the previously mandatory transparent silicone casing, for example. The Hue Essential Lightstrip is not visibly attached anywhere, but is hidden as indirect lighting.
Hue Essential Lightstrip does not have white LEDs
The light strip is intended exclusively as mood lighting. Unlike its siblings, the Hue Essential Lightstrip does not have dedicated white LEDs, but is only equipped with RGB. Accordingly, the maximum brightness is also significantly lower, and Philips Hue does not even specify it.
When it comes to colors, however, the low-budget light strip has nothing to hide. You can also use the Hue Essential Lightstrip to create color gradients and multicolored scenes.
At €59.99, the Hue Essential Lightstrip is ultimately 40 percent cheaper than the Hue Flux Lightstrip of the same length. If you really have to watch your budget and you’re sure that white light is only of secondary importance to you, then this simple light strip from Philips Hue is definitely an interesting alternative. The 10-meter version is not yet available, but is expected to cost €99.99. Compared to the Flux, you can save up to 50 percent on the cost.
