Now simply pair lamps and accessories using a QR code

Brand new light bulbs and accessories are normally connected to the Philips Hue Bridge without any problems. Even with the serial number, you can usually succeed quickly. In addition, my recommendation is an absolute safe bet: quickly reset the light to be added using a dimmer switch.

In addition to all these options, there is now another way, which is now the first option in the Philips Hue app: Setting up with a QR code. This not only works with lamps and lights, but also with numerous accessory products.

According to Philips Hue, this new option makes it possible to add several products to a room at the same time. I tried it out yesterday with a Philips Hue dimmer switch, which worked perfectly. It should work just as easily with lamps and lights.

Some products do not have a QR code for scanning

But beware: not all devices have a QR code that can be scanned in the Philips Hue app. For example, the two motion sensors for outdoor and indoor use. Here you can continue to use the old method via the “No QR code” button.

The QR code is well hidden on some other devices. With a Philips Hue Secure camera, you will find the QR code on the owner card; with the Hue Secure contact sensor and the Hue wall switch module, it is hidden behind the battery cover. For some ceiling lights, especially after installation, it is best to use the QR code in the manual – or the trick with the dimmer switch.

At the end of the day, it’s not rocket science and it’s not a major system change, because the familiar ways of pairing devices with the Philips Hue Bridge remain the same. The QR code now gives you another option that is apparently very important to Philips Hue.
