The new version of the Philips Hue app is already available in the Google Play Store and should be available in the Apple App Store shortly. Version 5.54 of Philips Hue brings some exciting new features, some of which can provide a whole new user experience. I’ve gathered all the details for you.

As always, the new features may not be available immediately after installing the update. Often, they only become visible after restarting the app or in the coming days. But what exactly has Philips Hue changed?

All that’s new in Philips Hue 5.54

The motion zones enabled by the new Hue Bridge Pro with MotionAware have now been improved even further. You can now decide whether the light should come on at all based on a brightness sensor or a motion sensor located anywhere in your home. Incidentally, the data from sensor A can also be used for sensor B. Depending on the installation, this could open up some exciting possibilities.

There are also improvements for Hue Secure. As previously announced, events from the last 24 hours are now stored in the cloud free of charge. This means you no longer need a subscription to see what happened recently in front of your new Hue Secure Video Doorbell or other Philips Hue camera.

If you still have several Philips Hue control centers in use despite the new Hue Bridge Pro, then we have good news for you. Google Home and Samsung SmartThings are now compatible with multi-bridge setups.

Another new feature concerns the AI assistant, which only appears in the Home view if you use the Hue app in English. From now on, it can be fed with questions and commands not only via text input, but also via voice.

Over the last few years, I've become a real expert when it comes to Hue & HomeKit. I now have over 50 lamps and numerous switches in use. I'm happy to share my experiences with you in my little blog.

  1. has anything more been learned about the backup function? It’s all the more necessary, given that the risk of breakages from older Hue Bridges is being grouped into a single Hue Bridge Pro…

  2. “Google Home and Samsung SmartThings are now compatible with multi-bridge setups.”

I’m usually an early adopter, but I have yet to buy the new bridge. Mostly because the lack of multi-bridge transfer.

Is that why I can’t seem to do what you write? Or how are you supposed to do it?

    I’m on 5.54.

    1. The new function has nothing to do with transfering multiple Bridges to the Bridge Pro, but connecting more than one Bridge (Pro) to Google Home.

  3. Maybe I was not being clear enough. I’m sorry for that.

Yes, that’s exactly what I want to do. Get two old bridges into Google home.

I just can’t seem to figure it out?

    1. I’m not using the feature, so I can’t help you. But it’s possible that the feature is not available yet and will roll out in the coming days.
