Before Philips Hue hopefully delivers new hardware in September – at least there is already a new icon for a Hue Bridge – let’s take another close look at the new Philips Hue Devote. But how does this ceiling light differ from the already familiar Philips Hue Tento? I’d like to show you in detail today.
Let’s start at the Philips Hue online shop, because apart from hardware stores, this is currently the only place to buy a Philips Hue Tento. The ceiling light is available in a total of 24 different configurations: round, square, black, white, small, medium, or large, as well as with White, White Ambiance, or White and Color Ambiance.

from €69,99
Hue Devote only available in two versions
The Philips Hue Devote, on the other hand, is only sold in two versions: round, white, colored light, and small or medium.
The Hue Devote is a little less bright, but costs 30 euros less than the comparable Tento version. The Hue Devote is initially available exclusively on Amazon in Europe for 79.99 euros or 109.99 euros.
Significant differences in packaging size
What immediately stands out is that the Hue Tento is packaged in a much more space-saving way. Would you have thought that the two ceiling lights in the pictures are the same size?
The Hue Devote is not only protected by a paper bag in its packaging, but also padded in an inner cardboard box. This surprises me, because it is actually designed for online retail and is only shipped – so compact packaging would actually be worth its weight in gold.
Same suspension, different cover
The only difference between the Hue Tento and the Hue Devote seems to be the housing on the back. The Hue Tento has a slightly transparent cover, so that light also shines through at the top. I assume that this is where the brightness difference of around 10 percent comes from.
The mounting plate is exactly the same for both versions. Unfortunately. The Hue Tento has proven to be extremely inconvenient when it comes to installation. It’s really a challenge to screw the ceiling light into the bracket correctly. You’ll have to struggle with this with the Hue Devote as well – fortunately, you only have to do it once.
