First look: new Philips Hue White Filament lamps

Now it is official: Philips Hue is launching its own filament lamps. Let me introduce you to the three models.

Philips Hue White Filament Lamps have been rumored for a long time, but in the end the evidence was overwhelming. So, not surprisingly, Signify has today officially announced the three already well-known filament lamps. They can be pre-ordered now and will be delivered starting next week. I will tell you what to expect – and at the end of this article you will also find a small video with detailed impressions.

First of all, as you might expect, there are three different models of Philips Hue White Filament: The traditional bulb shape (RRP 19.99 Euro), an elongated Edison shape (RRP 24.99 Euro) and a globe (RRP 29.99 Euro). All three lamps have an E27 base and offer a brightness of 550 lumens and can be dimmed continuously, the colour temperature is 2,100 Kelvin.

The 2,100 Kelvin model is supposed to come quite close to the classic light bulb. Nevertheless, it was a bit unusual for me when I screwed in the Hue White filament above my dining table – in the open kitchen the Philips Hue Aurelle shone with 2,700 Kelvin. The difference in colour temperature takes a lot of getting used to when you use the different lamps next to each other.

Still, the manufacturer has to be praised. The filament technology with two curved filaments looks much better than the competition from Innr, Osram or Ikea.

Still, the manufacturer has to be praised. The filament technology with two curved filaments looks much better than the competition from Innr, Osram or Ikea. In my opinion, the aesthetics of the switched off lamp alone justifies the price difference – whereby one has to say that the standard filament lamp with 19.99 euro is almost cheap for Hue conditions.

The three filament lamps from Philips Hue are seamlessly dimmable. It should be mentioned here that at less than 50 percent brightness, depending on the distance from the lamp, individual LED dots can certainly be seen. However, these are arranged so close together that I don't really see a problem here. You don't usually stand in front of your lamps at a distance of 10 or 20 centimeters.

Signify offers a total of three great lamps in classic design with the Philips Hue White Filament lamps. Apart from perhaps not using different colour temperatures, there's really nothing to complain about here, even the prices are absolutely ok and will certainly still be a bit lower on the free market.

Of course, the end is not in sight yet. Besides numerous other new Hue releases, I will present a selection of great table lamps for the new filament lamps next week at the latest.
