Apple Home: Scene export via Matter finally possible

Philips Hue 5.52 released

The Apple community has been waiting a long time for this. With the update to version 5.52, Philips Hue has finally gained the ability to transfer scenes to Apple Home via a Matter connection. This had not been possible since the launch of Matter integration in autumn 2023. To export a scene to Apple Home, you need to activate the scene and then tap the icon with the three dots directly to the right of it. In the menu that opens, select ‘Add to Apple Home’.

For years, transferring scenes from the Hue app to Apple Home was no problem, but only with the classic HomeKit connection. Once you switched to Matter, the feature was no longer available. This was particularly problematic after the launch of the Hue Bridge Pro, as it can only be integrated into Apple Home via Matter.

Scene export is not unimportant, especially if you also use Apple’s Home app in conjunction with other manufacturers. For example, Hue scenes can be integrated into automations. Voice control with Siri is also possible again for activating certain scenes. For Apple fans, this is a really exciting new feature, if you can call it that.

Other new features in Philips Hue 5.52

With the update released on Tuesday evening, Philips Hue delivers several other improvements. The focus is on the integration of the new Hue Secure Video Doorbell and Hue Secure Chime. However, the 24-hour free recording of detected movements does not seem to have been activated yet. At least my normal Hue Secure camera does not yet offer me the option to view recordings without a subscription. I hope that something will be done about this soon.

The update notes also mention the connection to Sonos Voice Control, which was already activated with the previous update.

Over the last few years, I've become a real expert when it comes to Hue & HomeKit. I now have over 50 lamps and numerous switches in use. I'm happy to share my experiences with you in my little blog.

  1. Hi,
The Add to Apple Home feature is not working for me.
Firstly, most of the time the Add to Apple Home option is not present after opening the three dot menu.
After restarting the app many times the option seems to be randomly present in the three dot menu.
I have managed to export some scenes to apple home but either the scene is empty (no action is triggered when using it, or the scene does not seem to exist at all in the Apple home scenes section.

  2. I’m experiencing same issue. It appears to export successfully from hue app…but nothing ever shows up in the Home app.
