This week was a whirlwind, at least for all Hue fans in Europe. On Tuesday, the Hue Flux Lightstrip was launched, initially in lengths of 3 and 4 meters. I ordered the new light strip right away and was able to give you my first detailed impressions on Wednesday. Feel free to take another look at my review.

If you’re planning a larger installation, there’s more good news: the Hue Flux Lightstrip is now also available in 5 and 10 meters in Germany and most other European countries. The only thing missing is the 6-meter version.

To help you keep track, here is a quick overview of the different lengths, including price and maximum brightness.

  • 3 meters for €69.99: 1,200 lumens at 12 watts
  • 4 meters for €84.99: 1,600 lumens at 16 watts
  • 5 meters for €99.99: 2,000 lumens at 20 watts
  • 6 meters for €119.99: 2,000 lumens at 20 watts
  • 10 meters for €199.99: 2,000 lumens at 20 watts
  • all models in the Hue Online Shop

From a length of five meters, the new Hue Flux Lightstrip is brighter than the previous light strips from Philips Hue, which reached a maximum of 1,800 lumens.

In addition, affordable gradient installations over longer distances are now possible for the first time. Previously, this was only possible with the Hue Ambiance Gradient Lightstrip, but the two-meter-long basic set costs €159.99, plus €64.99 for each additional meter. You can calculate the rest yourself.

Incidentally, all Hue fans in North America will have to wait a little longer. In the US and Canada, the new Philips Hue light strips will not be available until next March. One exception is the Hue OmniGlow Lightstrip, as the new top model will be launched worldwide in November.

Can’t it be any longer?

But what if 10 meters isn’t enough? There don’t seem to be any individual extensions available, and the Hue Flux Lightstrip doesn’t have pins at the end, as we know from the Lightstrip Plus, for example. However, accessories will be launched in October that allow you to reconnect cut pieces. Could you then also misuse a light strip to make the 10-meter-long Flux Lightstrip even longer? Maybe I should try that out next month…
