Today, Philips Hue not only introduced numerous new products, but also updated its app for iPhone and iPad. For Android, the update to version 5.50 should be available in the coming days. I’ll take you through it and tell you what’s changed.
Behind the scenes, Philips Hue has already been working on implementing the new devices over the past few weeks, including new icons in the color wheel for the Hue Festavia Globe string of lights. Version 5.50 of the app officially introduces support for the new devices. But there’s more.
Room and device names can now be synchronized with Apple Home via Matter. Changes are applied automatically, but you can also trigger synchronization manually via the settings in the “Smart Home” section. It’s interesting to note that the new Hue Bridge Pro is no longer directly compatible with HomeKit; the connection to Apple Home is made exclusively via Matter.
I haven’t noticed any other changes in the app so far, but I’m currently sitting on a small bench in the middle of the IFA exhibition grounds in Berlin. If you notice any new features in the app, I’d be particularly grateful if you could let me know in the comments or by email.
Fabian, have you had a chance to test the responsiveness of switches with lights using the new bridge pro? I use the in-wall switch module with retractive switches and there’s a noticeable delay between pressing the switch and seeing the lights come on (not to mention when holding down the switch to dim). I just ordered the new bridge pro, but I’m curious to know if this delay will no longer occur with the new upgraded hardware. Thanks!
I will test this next week at home, the Bridge Pro will arrive at the weekend.
Thank you, Fabian. I received a shipping notification last night for my bridge (in the UK). I’ll let you know if I have a chance to test it out sooner.
Thank you for your work!
