Philips Hue 5.49 makes it easier to configure automations and accessories

New update released in the App Store

Philips Hue released an update to version 5.49 of its in-house app this morning. The update is already available in the Apple App Store and should appear in the Google Play Store in the coming days. What has changed?

The official update description in the App Store states: “Have you ever found it annoying when scenes get applied while configuring your automations or accessories? You can now choose whether they should be previewed or not.”

This new option is actually quite handy. It is hidden at the bottom of the scene selection when setting up an automation, switch, or sensor. If you activate the “Show preview” button, the scene selected in the app will be transferred to the selected lights for preview.

Philips Hue does not mention any other new features, and I couldn’t find any at first glance. If you notice anything else, please let me know.

Over the last few years, I've become a real expert when it comes to Hue & HomeKit. I now have over 50 lamps and numerous switches in use. I'm happy to share my experiences with you in my little blog.

  1. How can I get their awesome ‘scenes’ into an automation??? I’ve tried Apple Home, Shortcuts, the Eve app, the Hue app, etc. but I just can’t do what I need. I want a bulb and light strip in one room and another bulb in another room to come on with different Phillips Hue specific scenes, the scenes that have a play button that roll through a color sequence.

  2. Alexa’s custom Routines integrate shockingly well with Hue lights and sensors. I wish the other platforms came close, but they don’t even seem to try.
