Philips Hue has quietly launched a new ceiling light in Europe in collaboration with Amazon. The Philips Hue Devote looks familiar to me in two ways: its name and its appearance. What’s the story behind this new ceiling light?
The name is certainly not unfamiliar. There was a Hue Devote some time ago, but back then it was a pendant light with an E27 bulb. In terms of form factor, the new Hue Devote ceiling light is similar to the Hue Tento, which was launched just last year.
And indeed, Tento and Devote have a lot in common, as both are sold exclusively. While the Tento is only available from Philips Hue and hardware stores, the Devote is initially available exclusively from Amazon. It will later also be available from other online retailers. The form factor is also very similar to the Hue Tento, but the hardware is not identical. Compared to the Hue Tento, it lacks the translucent light on the top.
These are the two versions of the Hue Devote ceiling light
Amazon is offering the Philips Hue Devote in two different sizes at launch. The Hue Devote S has a diameter of 30 centimeters and produces up to 2,000 lumens, while the Hue Devote M has a diameter of 43 centimeters and produces up to 2,900 lumens. Both models feature White and Color Ambiance and can therefore also display colors.
When it comes to price, things really heat up. While the 29.1-centimeter-wide, colorful Hue Tento with 2,250 lumens costs $109.99, the small Hue Devote is available for just $79.99. The large model is also $30 cheaper than the comparable Hue Tento version.
In terms of materials, the Hue Devote also relies on simple plastic. At least with the Hue Tento, it was well made, and you don’t touch a ceiling light like this every day. Only the installation was a bit tedious. I’ll find out for you by August at the latest whether anything has improved in this regard with the Hue Devote.
You can already order the two new ceiling lights on Amazon. The Philips Hue Devote is scheduled to ship in mid-August.
Too expensive.
Hue is getting nowhere.
It’s the cheapest WACA Ceiling Light they ever made…
I accidentally commented the wrong article, it was supposed to be about the transformer.
But nevertheless, a new cheap Ferrari isn’t cheap even if it’s the cheapest one.
