In recent years, TP Vision and Signify, the two companies behind Ambilight televisions and Philips Hue, have not worked particularly well together. Since 2023, Philips TVs have no longer been equipped with Ambilight+Hue, and currently, the Hue Bridge Pro cannot be paired with older TVs. Now there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel, even if not all the information is known yet: AmbiScape.
For me, the migration from one of my two old Hue Bridges to the new Hue Bridge Pro went smoothly. But that’s probably only because I didn’t pair my somewhat outdated Philips TV with Ambilight with Philips Hue. Because it is precisely this function that causes problems with the Hue Bridge Pro.
Philips televisions with built-in Ambilight are a great thing. I’ve been using one myself for years but in the end a good offer for an LG TV came through. If you have an Ambilight TV in use you should definitely keep in mind the issues surrounding the interaction between Ambilight and Hue described in this article.
