Have you packed away your Hue Festavia string lights yet?

What happens after Christmas

With Epiphany, Christmas has finally said goodbye to us and the Christmas tree should also have gone bye-bye in your home by now. And if not, then it will probably be time in the next few days. But what happens to the Hue Festavia after that?

The smart string lights from Philips Hue can cost more than 200 euros, depending on their length. After three or four weeks of use, it would be a shame to put the Festavia back in its box for a few months and stow it away in the cellar or storage room.

This is exactly what happened to a Festavia in my home – we took the tree down and packed the string lights away again. Three more Hue Festavia are currently still lit up in the garden in the evenings, but I'm starting to worry about that too. I'll probably use the next few dry days to take two Festavia down from the trees.

One last Festavia will probably remain hanging all year round. I have connected it to my outdoor low-voltage system and also “woven” it into the garden fence with a lot of effort. This should also create a nice atmosphere on a balmy summer evening with a cool drink on the patio.

With 250 smart mini LEDs along a 65.6-foot cord, Festavia string lights are the perfect indoor and outdoor decoration. Create a gradient of color along the entire string, or use one shade of white or color to create a more traditional look.

Finally, a few impressions of how the Hue Festavia can be placed. In addition to official product photos from Philips Hue, there are also some pictures from the community.

  1. Already done, but one nit – Hue and home platforms need a Holiday setting.
There should be some support for taking the device offline without having to deal with a OFFLINE item or having to delete it and re-add it next year. This might be more of a Apple Homekit issue, but I don’t see anywhere in the Hue app that let me take the string out of the daily system but keep it bound.

  2. The advantage of the RGB lighting is that you can change the color from Christmas mood to more neutral lighting :). I will leave the Festiva under the balcony canopy in the dark season but change the light color to a slightly whiter glow.
