Just a few more days and 2023 will be history. I’d like to take a look back at the 12 months that began with the launch of the Philips Hue Sync TV app for Samsung TVs and ended with the launch of the Philips Hue Secure Camera.
Throughout the year, Philips Hue has released a number of new products. They may not have equalled the fireworks of recent years, but there were still some interesting light sources. I would like to introduce you to my five favourites from 2023.
Philips Hue Go portable table lamp
The stylish table lamp with the integrated rechargeable battery was actually announced in 2022, but was only released in the USA in autumn. Here in Europe, we had to wait until spring 2023. The Hue Go can be paired via Bluetooth and ZigBee and charged on a practical charging station so that it is always ready for use. Another practical feature is the switch on the head of the light, which can also be used to activate the candlelight effect.
Philips Hue MR16 spots
Philips Hue did not previously offer any suitable light sources for the GU5.3 socket. This has changed with the launch of the MR16 spotlights. Existing 12-volt installations can simply be made smart with the new lights. The new Philips Hue spots are available with White Ambiance or White and Colour Ambiance technology.
Philips Hue Festavia of the second generation
At first glance, not much has changed with the Philips Hue Festavia. But, as is so often the case, the devil is in the detail: not only is it now officially suitable for outdoor use, but there is also a new, more compact power supply unit. Much more important from my point of view, however: the Festavia is now no longer only available in a 20 metre length, but alternatively also as an 8 or 40 metre long light chain. This increases the possibilities enormously. Unfortunately, Philips Hue has to pay dearly for this.

Philips Hue E14 bulbs in drop shape
Philips Hue presented its smallest light source back in 2020: The drop-shaped Hue E14 lamp. At that time, however, only as a limited Hue White. We had to wait a whole three years for different shades of white and colours. Since summer 2023, however, the drop-shaped E14 lamp has finally been available in all variants.
Philips Hue Secure contact sensor
An absolutely classic smart home product is now also available from Philips Hue. The contact sensor reports when a door or window is opened. This information can be used, for example, to switch the light on or off. I recently installed the contact sensor in my garden shed and will be reporting on my experiences soon.

Any updates or news on the HDMI Sync box 8K. I am hoping for a hardware solution not an app based solution as I don’t use a Samsung TV. I currently am bypassing the PS5 and Xbox to a seperate HDMI port as the current Hue HDMI box doesn’t support them at 120hz. I have this blog bookmarker for any updates via push so I can see if there is any news on the HDMI Sync box being released.
I think it’s ready and they wait for the right moment to release it officially.
Any news about Hue Sync TV for anything else than Samsung?
