Hueblog: Official Hue app will soon also support Bluetooth connections

Official Hue app will soon also support Bluetooth connections

Separate app could become redundant

Once again I have received interesting news from the Philips Hue development team. Specifically, it's about the integration of Bluetooth light bulbs into the official Philips Hue app.

It will start with the update to version 4.11, which will be released in the coming weeks in the App Store and the Google Play Store. With the new version, it will no longer be possible to add light bulbs to the Smart Home only via the bridge, but also to establish a direct connection between smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth.

Until now, this functionality required the Philips Hue Bluetooth app. Soon, the focus will be on one app, which will of course also make future development a little easier.

In the long run, the Hue Sync app will probably be dropped – but this is just a guess on my part. In any case, this would no longer be surprising: after all, the Hue app already has a “Sync” tab for Spotify integration. Moreover, the last update of the Sync app was more than eight months ago.
